PROJECTS:

The Parent House, Winton School

Project: An Adult Education Unit
Status: Completed 2000
Location: Killick Street, London N1
Client: Winton & Co
Contract Value: £115,000

The Parent House offers a mix of daytime and after-school classes ranging from basic literacy, languages and word processing, through to cookery, sewing and practical parenting workshops. An advisory service offers counselling and career guidance and support. Classes aim to help parents develop the necessary skills to secure vocational training and employment for themselves.

Located within 10 minutes walk of King’s Cross station, the two-storey brick school-keeper’s house had fallen into disrepair and remained vacant for five years. With substantial grants from English Partnerships, the National Lottery Charities Board, King’s Cross SRB Partnership and the Lotus Relief Charitable Trust it has now been restored and enlarged to a high standard.
