The farm is located close to the city and keeps a selection of farm animals and grows plants and vegetables. Sited on a former railway goods depot, the farm was started in 1978 and gained charitable status in 1980.

To provide better facilities for the staff, animals and over 18,000 visitors a year, the farm is planning to have a new Office Building and a new Community Building. Both will be pre-fabricated timber buildings.

The project includes landscaping the entire site and creating a new central paddock.
